Costumer Reviews
The supplier and pricing for this sometimes change. I got mine from Amazon and it arrived very quickly. The packaging was the usual mess: the boxed product had been put into a larger Amazon box, with about a metre of screwed-up brown paper tossed in. It was free to bash around inside the larger box. Despite this it worked fine. Dimensions: the fan is about the size of a magnum of champagne (I wish!). It is nearly 35cm high (not sure where the product description on Amazon gets 33cm) and around 13cm wide and around 13cm deep - I would allow 15cm for depth as the cable runs into the back. The cable itself feels a bit soft and cheap - I suspect it is two-core wire - and terminates in a standard UK plug. A look inside with the aid of a torch shows that the air is moved by the sort of 'paddle wheel' that used to drive Mississippi steamers, running on its side. This is an inefficient way of moving air, which is why propeller driven aircraft and ships use, er, propellers and not Mississippi paddle wheels. To compensate, the air is forced out through a slot the size of a medium letterbox, and this gives it a bit of oomph. I powered it up on Saturday and it has been running in my bedroom ever since. This is now Monday morning and so far no problems. Noise at the lowest setting compares well with the 12-inch desktop fan I used to use in a larger bedroom and I can sleep fine with it running. In my small bedroom this fan is perfect. It operates at low setting across 290cm (9ft 6in) to blow air over my pillow and gently 'wick' the moisture away. When I tried the rotation mode on this it seemed a bit tacky and rough, and I suspect it has cheap plastic gears. Luckily I don't use rotation settings. A 'proper' fan is more efficient and probably cheaper, but if you need to save space (and I do) and want to move the air in smaller rooms, this is working out fine.
I now have two of these fans, one for the bedroom and one for the living room. Please note I live in a small flat so the rooms are not large. The timer is perfect for the bedroom, no problems having to get up and switch it off. Easily portable and even easier to use.
